“13 wines to taste but don’t panic, yes you can…with a little determination!”
At Mylène, Pierre, and Franz-Ludwig Gondard’s place, the welcome is most warm! They kindly accept your approximate comments and joyfully provide you with knowledge about wines, soils, climates, techniques, terroir specificities, history – in short, a tasting loaded with fascinating anecdotes.
Entry-level
We begin with a Viré-Clessé Symphonie 2018-2019, and yes, Mylène is a music lover, with a son named Franz-Ludwig, it was to be expected.
And we’re off to a strong start! For us, the entry-level is actually a key moment since it sets the tone for what’s to come. It’s not about offering “a cheap but less good wine,” but rather an accessible success, a wine without too much complexity but with perfect balance.
A winemaker who neglects their entry-level would be a bit like a chef who rushes through the appetizer or who only thinks of a children’s menu as “Nuggets/Fries”. Anyway, you get the idea.
At Gondard-Perrin, nothing is neglected, and they aim to please right from the start.
Pierre will still point out to us that unfortunately, the first wine is often the one we forget at the end of the tasting, a shame, but wines are like perfumes, with too much sniffing, we forget the first whiffs (yes, “effluve” is masculine).
The Score
Obviously, I’m not going to comment on 13 wines for you. First, it would be as boring as the neighbor’s vacation photo album; second, I don’t have the expertise, and finally, go ahead and try them yourselves!
What I can tell you, however, is that we had an extraordinary time without the slightest hint of boredom and we thank Pierre for his patience, never once glancing at his watch!
A Palette for Every Palate!
The palette is harmonious yet diverse. Honestly, there’s something for every palate: mineral, fruity, woody…
“Our Favorites
Among this selection of exceptional wines, some have particularly caught our attention:
Viré-Clessé 2019 climat “Brechen”
Viré-Clessé 2019 ” Vieilles Vignes Mâsure”
Viré-Clessé 2019 “Aux mares”
In conclusion, we wholeheartedly recommend Domaine Gondard-Perrin and are adding it to our menu.
We thank Pierre and Mylène for their warm welcome and for sharing their extensive knowledge with us.
We were pleasantly surprised by the VDF Rosé “Secret de femme” with notes of raspberry and powdered sugar – a delightful discovery to enjoy chilled by the poolside.
Lastly, a tasting is also about making connections. We had the opportunity to meet Chantal Parisse, a talented artist whose works will certainly leave an impression. What talent!
An amazing experience waits for you at Domaine Gondard-Perrin. If you have the chance, visiting such a domaine can be a delightful journey into the world of wine, filled with warmth, knowledge, and delightful surprises. Cheers to your future visit!
