Dégustation au Domaine de Quintefeuille
First encounter

We discovered Domaine Quintefeuille at the Wine and Gastronomy Fair in Viré on 9, 10 and 11 November 2019.
We fell for the wines of this estate and for Serge Lespinasse’s personality!
Second encounter

After that discovery we had decided to add the wines of Domaine Quintefeuille to our list for the 2020/2021 season, but of course we wanted to meet the winegrowers at the estate itself. An appointment was made for Monday 25/05/2020
Charm, restraint, subtlety, purity and elegance
Those are the words that come straight to mind the moment you enter the estate. Neither too much nor too little. A perfect balance reigns here, a kind of serenity, of class but never of snobbery or coldness. In short, everything we love, barely through the door!

It is with Martial Deal, Serge Lespinasse’s partner, that we do the tour and the tasting.
Another lovely encounter! How to describe Martial?
Discreet and efficient, knowledgeable — VERY — you sense the mastery behind every remark. And yet you are never drowned in technical jargon: Martial adapts what he says to his visitor’s knowledge, further proof of intelligence if any were needed. And generosity too; once again one cannot help noticing how much that ingredient ends up in the bottle when the winegrower has it.
And then there is that constant concern to offer great quality, that permanent reflection in order to keep adapting to new trends while retaining one’s personality and integrity.
Nothing is left to chance!

Everything is considered, thought through, questioned again if need be: a permanent pursuit of quality that results in perfect balance. Research, reflection, subtlety — the wines of Domaine Quintefeuille have a mind rather than a soul.
And yet there is no pretension at all, but on the contrary the restraint that is the mark of elegance.
How, then, could one be surprised by the latest awards received at the Concours International de Lyon 2020?
A gold medal for Les Charmes and another for Les Charmes, Cuvée Elégance.
ALL the wines of Domaine Quintefeuille won us over: Mâcon-Lugny L’allée 2018 and Mâcon-Villages Le Clos 2018 which keep the original purity of the fruit, Mâcon-Lugny Les Charmes 2018, with its aromas of white peach and apricot on the nose, its freshness with notes of fresh almond and delicately toasted hazelnut on the palate and a fine lemony, saline finish, Mâcon-Lugny Les Charmes “Cuvée Elegance”, scents of ripe yellow fruit with pear dominant, unfolding on the palate in an explosion of flavours that leaves ample room for peppered mango, extended by hints of vanilla-scented cinnamon. That last wine is, for me, an invitation to travel — a love at first sight that has never faded.
Red
We were lucky enough to taste it and we are waiting for it most impatiently!!!!! This excellent Pinot Noir will take pride of place on our wine list!
Quality, quality, quality!

Only last year we still tended to talk about price when we offered our Chardonnays. Today we realise how far that is from being the main argument: there is, in the end, no comparison to be drawn with the Côte d’Or. Our winegrowers offer something else — different, but not “something slightly beneath”. That idea of “slightly beneath” has only a geographical meaning and makes no sense in terms of quality.
We greatly admire the exceptional work of our winegrowers, who fully deserve their place in Burgundy. And we admire their generosity just as much.
A huge thank you to Serge Lespinasse and Martial Leal for their welcome and their trust.
